There are members of Congress and people running for the Presidency who want to cut Social Security and Medicare. They are the same people who want to keep the minimum wage. They also fight against paid family care leave. Yet I doubt that any members of Congress would want their own salaries or benefits to be cut. They say that raising the minimum wage would be bad for the economy. They say that Social Security and Medicare are drains on the economy. Yet they receive excessive pensions. Their health benefits are much better than those of the majority of citizens of the U.S.A. Tax breaks for the rich are hurting the economy. Many politicians do not want to do away with these tax breaks, because these politicians have been bought by these members of the 1%. I have serious doubts that many members of either major U.S. party would want to take real action to fix these problems. Only a revolution of some kind will do anything.
