"I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings was the first book by Maya Angelou that was published. It is a very moving autobiography. I had read it quite a few years ago. She wrote about being shuttled between her grandmother, her mother and her father. She wrote about being raped by her mother's boyfriend. She wrote about her sexual and intellectual development. She also wrote about dealing with racism. This is one of the most self-revealing autobiographies that I have read. I would recommend reading this book, because my words fail to convey the power of this book. I want to read the other volumes of her autobiography.
